De Mulieribu Claris or Concerning Famous Women was published first in 1361 by Giovanni Bocaccio. His chapter on Manto, describes her as the daughter of Theban oracle Tiresias. Manto inherited the gift of prophecy.
Was Tiresias a Father or Mother to Manto? It all depends on when he was turned into a women by Hera.
This emulation brought together elements from female artisans associated with the Roycroft, especially the sculptor Katherine Maltwood who created the Magna Mater that Manto stands beside.
